Breakfast can be the traditional bacon and eggs or sausage and eggs, but it you don’t want to cook that style of side meat with eggs meal and decide to have pancakes or french toast, there are eggs on those, too. Eggs are in the bread for your lunch sandwich and eggs are used in noodles, dinner rolls, muffins and many casseroles that we serve for dinner.

Late night munchies and a lot of snacks include eggs. Brownies, cakes, pies, cookies and a variety of other baked goods all contain eggs. Some people like hard boiled eggs and pickled eggs for afternoon snacks. Eggs are everywhere in our diet.

I am sure that there are things we can do to make the house better insulated and more energy efficient. If what I have to spend on a home insulation contractor is equal to the savings of just a year or two on our electric bills, that would be worth it to me.

There are most likely a lot of things we can do differently to cut back on our daily energy use. I have been questioning the efficiency of our heating system. The furnace is the original one that was put in when they built the house in the 1980′s. Our kitchen appliances and laundry machines are several years old, too. We must cut our electric bill in half and will look at all the energy saving solutions that an audit will reveal.

This time we want to go with the Club on their European trip. Every year they go to either a skit destination in Italy, Germany or France. We’ve been looking at photographs and tourist information on European ski resorts and are getting excited at the thought of an European ski trip.

My wife got the idea for installing a windowbox under each of the windows across the front of the house, except for the one that is under the porch roof. The front of the house gets a lot of sun, as it faces the southeast and has less trees that the back yard. Anything that goes in our front yard can be seen by all the neighbors and anyone who happens to drive down our street, so we like to keep it clean and orderly.

In the summer we like to plant a variety of flowers that are either bright red or yellow. I like geraniums but they seem to be getting hard to find around here. Sometimes we can little pots of them to put in our ind a hanging basket, but I was looking for flower boxes. If I can’t find anything this next weekend, I guess we will look at a different type of flower for this year.

Sometimes I forget that harsh words can hurt, and I don’t intend to hurt anyone. So I am posting this tonight with the thought that I will see this in the morning and it can motivate me to be kinder and gentler to people throughout the day. Everything we say and do has an impact on other people and i want to make sure that what I say and do will be thought of as a positive or helpful thing.

If you stop using salt, you can turn to different spices to add flavor to your foods. Start by looking at your spice rack and throwing out anything older than 2 years. Preferably anything older than one year, but certainly two years or older. Check for an expiration date and make sure that you have on hand is fresh.

Now you want to get your spice racks organized. I like to organize them alphabetically, like they are arranged on the store shelves. But you might like to organize them by use, such as all spices for baking in one area, then all spices for spaghetti sauce in another area, then spices and rubs for meats in a different area.

In my own kitchen, I have them alphabetical and it is easy to spot duplicates or missing spices from the collection with just a quick glance. I use a wall spice rack mounted to the pantry door. They are all in one convenient place and sometimes I have to move them all around to make room for a new purchase.

You can’t choose your family but you can choose your friends. I grew up with a house full of people who are related to me, but truth is that I choose to spend my time with friends, not family. I’m done with all the drama and distance makes the days go more smoothly. But I do still love them all and we are always there for each other when the chips are down.

Then we have the annual Steeplechase on Mother’s Day weekend. A huge charity event and Nashville’s version of the Kentucky Derby, with women getting dressed up with fancy hats and having catered picnics on the race grounds. We also have the Tennessee Ren Fest and the annual Air Show in Lavergne. All of these huge outdoor event depend on good weather for attendance and a financial success. And every year it rains on Mother’s Day weekend. Without fail.

With rain on my mind, I was looking at rain chains to see if they would be a way to collect rainwater and direct the runoff from my roof into rain barrels to use for watering the garden and yard.
