Optical Illusion

illusion

Every once in a while I come across something great on Facebook that is worth sharing here. I found this optical illusion today. Shake your head while staring at this design and you will see something not visible until you do shake your head. Isn’t that something?

Whitney Knows

Written by Fermin Washington

Whitney knew the first thing I did when we moved was go to WirelessInternet.net to get our Internet connection set up. I wanted to make sure I would be able to e-mail her all the time because ever since we started doing long-distance it’s been really important for us to stay in contact at all times. Neither of us really like talking on the phone too much so a lot of our conversation happen via text or e-mail but that is A-OK with me. I really love with me and I can’t wait until we are in the same city once again but I had to take this job opportunity because in this economy it’s hard to know when another great one like this would come along. Whitney is graduating soon and then we will decide if she will moved out here to be with me or if we’ll have to wait another couple of years but I have a feeling she will be just as ready as I will to finally live in the same place.

Even a Gifted Man Can’t Win Them All

The TV series, “A Gifted Man,” is on every Friday night and I like it. The premise is that a gifted surgeon who has issues dealing with impoverished people becomes haunted by his dead wife’s ghost. His wife used to run a free clinic and was accidentally killed with lots of good work here still unfinished. So, she comes back as a ghost and nags her husband into helping at the free clinic. This puts him in conflict with his work as a top surgeon at a major hospital.

Tonight’s episode had three different stories of patients. He won a case by figuring out what the actual disease was so he could be treated, he lost a case by the patient committing suicide when surgery didn’t cure him, and the third case was a patient who refused treatment and he finally conceded that it was her right to choose the treatment or not.

Although when he loses it is sad, I’m glad that he is not just a fluffy hero. It shows that even a gifted man does not win all the time, which is much more like real life.

Raleigh Convention

My sister is headed to Raleigh for the weekend for a trade show. I think this is her first trade show ever. That is funny to me, as I have been to at least 60 trade shows – maybe more. I grew up going to trade shows with my dad. Sometimes we went as trade show attendees or even the general public, and other times we went as vendors and exhibitors.

I know all about setting up and breaking down a booth, from trade show carpet to panel displays. As a kid, I have carried boxes of sales collateral from parking lots, through airports and through the service entrances of major hotels all over the country. Come to think of it, that is probably why my sister never went to any of the trade shows with us – she was younger and not much use as manual labor.

Even kids get tired of standing all day on the concrete floors of exhibit floors and convention centers. That is why I insist on logo mats for every trade show that I have to man. I know what a blessing it can be to have something other than hard concrete under your tired, aching feet.

We’ve even done outdoor festivals where we needed a logo canopy to keep the sun and rain off our display area. One year we had a booth at the Tennessee Renaissance Festival – that was great fun and very profitable. I really miss those days with my dad.

Walgreens for Groceries?

Thankfully I am a pretty healthy guy. I rarely have to visit a doctor for anything. Now that I think about it, I see my dentist more often than I see any doctor. I rarely have to visit a traditional drug store, although they are everywhere.

Most of the time if I need groceries, I go to the Food Lion that is about a mile from my house to the East. The problem with going East from my house is that there is no fast food anywhere in that area.

If I go West from my house for fast food, there is no place to buy groceries. Until I realized that the Walgreens on the corner has recently remodeled and they and dedicated almost half of the store to groceries. They have an entire wall if refrigerated and frozen foods, and several aisles of canned goods, sodas, snack foods, cereals and bakery items.

That is the same thing that Target did when they remodeled their store after the flood. They turned about on third of the floor into grocery items. I wonder which of the two giants decided first to go in the direction of expanded grocery items – Walgreens or Target?
